Lost in time

In the middle of a jungle, soon turned out a group of refugees hiking around in an anxious manner. Slowly, pacing a way nobody knows where headed, marching on the wet leaves, they couldn't escape of glancing at each other's face as the answer may have been scratched onto one of them. Getting lost in this haunted damn island for a long time, nothing seemed going on its track, a big lack of hope was inevitable and the adrenalin was surrounding head over feet. Eventually, the smart ass turned to the wisest one, asking: "Locke, do you know when we are?"

As watching the series in an irregular sequence, so not knowing where the logic of this question had been arisen from, I stumbled. This time my thrilling was not due to a sudden polar bear, recently dead and soon waken up guys... This question has torn me apart, chilled me to my inner bones. Afterwards, I couldn't avoid repeating it on my own: Do we know when we are?

I realized (as many of you may agree) everyone on this planet, let's say every living thing, constitutes a point that the whole universe is taking as the center and follows the orbit accordingly. Like all stars turn around the pole star till morning. Since our cockpit is placed into our brain and our nerve system is the only receiver, we seem to feel the world from our side and as it changes, we stay the same, such as the center point, the shiny pole star. That's why we get shocked on finding a grey parvenue in our hair, or a wrinkle in the middle of our eyebrows. Thickened waist, easily tired body is still giving us a surprise first, rather than an already granted symptom of aging. We get used to then, get familiar with the new circumstances....until a new aging result hits us by the head.

Assume we don't get older or have never been younger, we just pass time. Would we know when we are by then? Would it matter if we were on the ancient history or the latest future? Or to say, we may be in the ancient history, since the definer of such a comparison is vague.

What if we were moved to another place in time and what if we didn't know when we are? Would we try to internalize the era according to our long-term habits? I claim we would. We would reject dressing like other people, talking like other people, since we wouldn't think like other people. We would be just holding on at the time when we liked being in at most.

Our time travel may be possible, instead. Just with a strong memory, strenghtened by often held meetings with old friends... or recordings kept in a quite disciplined manner. The tickets of the shows never to be forgotten, a dried flower from the special one. Some silly notes you had taken before and soon it became a nasty history. The question is which memory-filled period we choose to be stucked in.

Some of us may think that time is linear. I assume the other way around. Time must rather be a circle, a catastrophic helezones sometimes, full of rewindings and we can observe some up and downs at the same steps. All in all, we are fighting to survive in our damn haunted lifetimes and sometimes get lost in this one of a kind island. We are consulting to our memories very often, our past experiences and so forth, just to catch an exit. Consequently, all turns out a time travelling. As long as we feel like we are at our best time ever, the answer is going to lead us the right way and escape us from our going-no-where island.

Since we are the pole stars of our own lives, we should stuck ourselves in the time when we were feeling the shiniest and the happiest. Only in this way, we can brighten our path lying in front of us. Always remembering that time, soon we'll discover ourselves in our best mood ever. This is the time we should be in. This "time" constitutes the long-lasting answer of the sudden-appearing question of when we are.
